Berries in season this spring

Spring is approaching in Australia, which means the best fruits are also coming to season: berries!

The first two you can get your hands on are blueberries and cherries.

Blueberry season in Australia starts as early as October and ends in February; another period runs from July to April. The producing regions include West Australia, South Australia, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales; the latter being the center of production during the summer. Blueberries are the seasonal fruits this upcoming spring in areas including Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth.

The harvesting of cherries can start as early as October and lasts until February. Growing regions include Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria Western Australia and Tasmania. The Australian Cherry season lasts only 100 days; Victoria having the longest harvesting period of 16 weeks, while Tasmania has the shortest harvest window of only 8 weeks but ranks third in terms of production. There are 6 growing regions in Victoria alone, Yarra Valley being one of them. The Victorian Cherry season peaks in November but extends through to February.

Don’t forget to add our berries to your grocery lists this spring!
